Morocco hosts African Qualification Tournament for OG Rio in 2016

On Wednesday, 13th May,2015 , the AFTU held an AFTU Executive Council Meeting , headed by Gen. Ahmed Fouly, WTF Vice President and AFTU President. The meeting was held in VDGOF Hotel, Chelyabinsk , Russia on the occasion of the WTF World Taekwondo Championship 12-18 May,2015.



The main subject on the Agenda was the selection of the hosting city of the African Qualification Tournament for the OG in Rio 2016. Each of the four bidding country had to make a presentation in front of the Council, and at the end a voting took place. During the meeting , it was announced that Tunisia had withdrawn its bid, leaving Morocco, Egypt and Cote d'Ivoire in the race. To ensure fairness and legal accuracy of the process, Gen. Fouly invited two guests to act as observers : Mr. Hoss Rafaty , WTF Secretary General, and Mr. Corbin Min, Legal Advisor to WTF President.



The voting process proceeded in a quiet manner and organized manner, but anxiety was in the air. Upon checking the votes by the observers, Gen. Fouly declared that after counting the votes Morocco had the highest vote numbers, and would therefore be the host for the African Qualification Tournament for OG in Rio 2016. He congratulated Mr. Driss and told him that he was confident that Morocco would organize an outstanding Championship.



The hosting President was loudly congratulated by all Council Members and everyone wished the bidding countries all the best for future endeavors.
